Meet the team …
Based in Ravensbourne, South-eastern Queensland, we are a small family business, owned and operated by Peter, Kym, Ben and James Sparshott.
Peter and Kym have over 50 years combined experience in ecology and environmental fields, and a background and qualifications in horticulture.
We can offer expertise in a diverse range of areas, including flora and fauna identification/surveys, general ecological advice and environmental management, revegetation and native plant culture, ethical arboriculture, wildlife habitat enhancement including nest-box and carved-hollow installation. Leaftail Environmental holds the appropriate permits for wildlife trapping and spotlighting surveys.
We also host eco-friendly accommodation on our tropical rainforest property near Millaa Millaa, North Qld, home to a wealth of amazing wildlife.

Peter
Peter has extensive experience in the environmental sector, as an Environmental Officer with Qld Transport & Main Roads, Qld Parks & Wildlife Service, Birds Australia & also as a popular guest presenter of a wildlife segment on ABC Radio Sth Qld. He has a keen interest in local indigenous history & is currently a volunteer on the advisory committee for the Gummingurru cultural site.
Kym
Kym is our flora specialist & has worked as a botanist/ecologist with the Qld Herbarium, & Qld Parks & Wildlife Service. Her expertise is in plant identification, flora/fauna surveys & vegetation mapping. Kym is a Suitably Qualified Person (SQP) for Protected Flora Surveys. She also manages an accommodation/conservation property in North Qld.
Ben
Ben is a skilled arborist and provides specialist climbing services for ecological applications, including surveys for arboreal mammals and monitoring fauna hollows and nestboxes. His specialty is installing chainsaw-carved hollows. Ben is also an accomplished woodworker, CNC router builder/operator and our technical wizard for projects involving electronic gadgetry.
James
James is our team’s wildlife expert, with a wealth of knowledge about Australian fauna, including birds, reptiles, frogs, mammals, fish & just about anything else that moves. He uses his communication skills to educate about natural history subjects, via presentations, training workshops & guided tours. James is also a talented photographer.
